Hypertension

Definition: Persistently high arterial blood pressure. Currently accepted threshold levels are 140 mm Hg systolic and 90 mm Hg diastolic pressure.

Hypertension Categories.
Hypertension, Malignant - Severe hypertension characterized by papilledema and necrosis of small arteries and arterioles. The diastolic pressure is generally greater than 130 mm Hg.
Hypertension, Pulmonary - Increased pressure within the pulmonary circulation, usually secondary to cardiac or pulmonary disease.
