Substance Withdrawal Syndrome

Definition: Physiological and psychological symptoms associated with withdrawal from the use of a drug after prolonged administration or habituation. The concept includes withdrawal from smoking or drinking, as well as withdrawal from an administered drug.
Notes: includes withdrawal from addictive drugs or other substances, administered drugs, smoking & alcohol (but DELIRIUM TREMENS see ALCOHOL WITHDRAWAL DELIRIUM is also available); do not use /compl for the symptom; coord IM with specific substance /adv eff (IM)
