Bone and Bones

Definition: A specialized CONNECTIVE TISSUE that is the main constituent of the SKELETON. The principle cellular component of bone is comprised of OSTEOBLASTS, OSTEOCYTES and OSTEOCLASTS, while FIBRILLAR COLLAGENS and hydoxyapatite crystals form the BONE MATRIX.

Bone and Bones Categories.
Bones of Upper Extremity - The bones of the upper and lower ARM. They include the CLAVICLE and SCAPULA.
Diaphyses - The shaft of long bones.
Epiphyses - The head of a long bone that is separated from the shaft by the epiphyseal plate until bone growth stops. At that time, the plate disappears and the head and shaft are united.
Foot Bones - The TARSAL BONES, METATARSAL BONES, and phalanges. The tarsal bones consists of seven bones: CALCANEUS, TALUS, cuboid, navicular, internal, middle, and external cuneiform bones. The five metatarsal bones are numbered one through five, running medial to lateral. There are 14 phalanges in each foot, the great toe has two while the other toes have three each.
Hyoid Bone
Leg Bones - The bones of the lower extremity in man and of any of the four extremities in animals.
Pelvic Bones
Sesamoid Bones
Skull - The SKELETON of the HEAD including the FACIAL BONES and the bones enclosing the BRAIN.
Spine - The spinal or vertebral column.
