Nitriles

Definition: Organic compounds containing the -CN radical. The concept is distinguished from CYANIDES, which denotes inorganic salts of HYDROGEN CYANIDE.

Nitriles Categories.
Acetonitriles - Compounds in which a methyl group is attached to the cyano moiety.
Acrylonitrile - A highly poisonous compound used widely in the manufacture of plastics, adhesives and synthetic rubber.
Aminopropionitrile - 3-Aminopropanenitrile. Reagent used as an intermediate in the manufacture of beta-alanine and pantothenic acid.
Amygdalin - A cyanogenic glycoside found in the seeds of Rosaceae.
Fadrozole - A selective aromatase inhibitor effective in the treatment of estrogen-dependent disease including breast cancer.
o-Chlorobenzylidenemalonitrile - A riot control agent which causes temporary irritation of the eyes and the mucosal surface of the respiratory tract. It is a more potent irritant than OMEGA-CHLOROACETOPHENONE, but less incapacitating.
Pregnenolone Carbonitrile - A catatoxic steroid and microsomal enzyme inducer having significant effects on the induction of cytochrome P450. It has also demonstrated the potential for protective capability against acetaminophen-induced liver damage.
Technetium Tc 99m Sestamibi - A technetium imaging agent used to reveal blood-starved cardiac tissue during a heart attack.
