Rhinitis

Definition: Inflammation of the mucous membrane of the nose.

Rhinitis Categories.
Hay Fever - A seasonal variety of allergic rhinitis, marked by acute conjunctivitis with lacrimation and itching, regarded as an allergic condition triggered by specific allergens.
Rhinitis, Allergic, Perennial - Inflammation of the mucous membrane of the nose similar to that found in hay fever except that symptoms persist throughout the year. The causes are usually air-borne allergens, particularly dusts, feathers, molds, animal fur, etc.
Rhinitis, Atrophic - A chronic form of rhinitis marked by wasting of the mucous membrane and the glands. It is usually associated with crusting and foul-smelling discharges.
Rhinitis, Vasomotor - A form of rhinitis brought about by changes in vascular tone and permeability. The etiology is obscure.
