Cartilage

Definition: A non-vascular form of connective tissue composed of CHONDROCYTES embedded in a matrix of type II COLLAGEN and CHONDROITIN SULFATE. It is divided into three types: hyaline cartilage, fibrocartilage, and yellow or elastic white fibrocartilage.
Notes: inflammation (chondritis) is likely to be OSTEOCHONDRITIS; CARTILAGE, ARTICULAR is also available

Cartilage Categories.
Cartilage, Articular
Ear Cartilages - Cartilages of the auricle (pinna) and the external acoustic meatus.
Intervertebral Disk
Laryngeal Cartilages - The nine cartilages of the larynx, including the cricoid, thyroid and epiglottic, and two each of arytenoid, corniculate and cuneiform.
Menisci, Tibial - The interarticular fibrocartilages of the superior surface of the tibia.
Nasal Septum - The partition separating the two nasal cavities in the midplane, composed of cartilaginous, membranous and bony parts.
