Fetal Heart

Definition: The heart of the fetus of any viviparous animal. It refers to the heart in the postembryonic period and is differentiated from the embryonic heart (HEART/embryology) only on the basis of time.
Notes: mammals only; use all pertinent qualif (except /blood supply) & do not coord with MYOCARDIUM for HEART/MYOCARDIUM restrictions; not for chick embryo heart ( = CHICK EMBRYO + HEART /embryol)

Fetal Heart Categories.
Ductus Arteriosus - A fetal blood vessel connecting the pulmonary artery with the descending aorta.
Truncus Arteriosus - The embryonic arterial trunk arising from the heart which then divides into the aorta and the main pulmonary artery.
