Regional Health Planning Categories.
Certificate of Need - A certificate issued by a governmental body to an individual or organization proposing to construct or modify a health facility, or to offer a new or different service. The process of issuing the certificate is also included.
Community Health Planning - Planning that has the goals of improving health, improving accessibility to health services, and promoting efficiency in the provision of services and resources on a comprehensive basis for a whole community. Health Facility Planning - Areawide planning for health care institutions on the basis of projected consumer need.
Health Systems Plans - Statements of goals for the delivery of health services pertaining to the Health Systems Agency service area, established under PL 93-641, and consistent with national guidelines for health planning.
Medically Underserved Area - A geographic location which has insufficient health resources (manpower and/or facilities) to meet the medical needs of the resident population.
Regional Medical Programs - Coordination of activities and programs among health care institutions within defined geographic areas for the purpose of improving delivery and quality of medical care to the patients. These programs are mandated under U.S. Public Law 89-239.
State Health Plans - State plans prepared by the State Health Planning and Development Agencies which are made up from plans submitted by the Health Systems Agencies and subject to review and revision by the Statewide Health Coordinating Council.
