Definition: Administration and functional structures for the purpose of collectively systematizing activities for a particular goal.

Organizations Categories.
Academies and Institutes - Organizations representing specialized fields which are accepted as authoritative; may be non-governmental, university or an independent research organization, e.g., National Academy of Sciences, Brookings Institution, etc.
Congresses - Conferences, conventions or formal meetings usually attended by delegates representing a special field of interest.
Consumer Organizations - Organized groups of users of goods and services.
Health Planning Organizations - Organizations involved in all aspects of health planning activities.
Home Care Agencies - Public or private organizations that provide, either directly or through arrangements with other organizations, home health services in the patient's home. (Hospital Administration Terminology, 2d ed)
International Agencies - International organizations which provide health-related or other cooperative services.
Labor Unions - Organizations comprising wage and salary workers in health-related fields for the purpose of improving their status and conditions. The concept includes labor union activities toward providing health services to members.
National Academy of Sciences (U.S.) - A United States organization of distinguished scientists and engineers established for the purpose of investigating and reporting upon any subject of art or science as requested by any department of government. The National Research Council organized by NAS serves as the principal operating agency to stimulate and support research.
Organizations, Nonprofit - Organizations which are not operated for a profit and may be supported by endowments or private contributions.
Self-Help Groups - Organizations which provide an environment encouraging social interactions through group activities or individual relationships especially for the purpose of rehabilitating or supporting patients, individuals with common health problems, or the elderly. They include therapeutic social clubs.
Societies - Organizations composed of members with common interests and whose professions may be similar.
