Hydrolases
| Definition: |
Any member of the class of enzymes that catalyze the cleavage of the substrate and the addition of water to the resulting molecules, e.g., ESTERASES, glycosidases (GLYCOSIDE HYDROLASES), lipases, NUCLEOTIDASES, peptidases (PEPTIDE HYDROLASES), and phosphatases (PHOSPHORIC MONOESTER HYDROLASES). EC 3. |

Hydrolases Categories.
Acid Anhydride Hydrolases - A group of enzymes that catalyze the hydrolysis of diphosphate bonds in compounds such as nucleoside di- and tri-phosphates, and sulfonyl-containing anhydrides such as adenylylsulfate. (Enzyme Nomenclature, 1992) EC 3.6. |
Adenosylhomocysteinase - An enzyme which catalyzes the catabolism of S-ADENOSYLHOMOCYSTEINE to ADENOSINE and HOMOCYSTEINE. It may play a role in regulating the concentration of intracellular adenosylhomocysteine. |

Complement Activating Enzymes - Enzymes present in the complement system which activate one or more components in the system. |
Epoxide Hydrolases - Enzymes that catalyze reversibly the formation of an epoxide or arene oxide from a glycol or aromatic diol, respectively. EC 3.3.2.3. |
Esterases |
Glycoside Hydrolases |
Pancreatin - A mammalian pancreatic extract composed of enzymes with protease, amylase and lipase activities. It is used as a digestant in pancreatic malfunction. |
Peptide Hydrolases - A subclass of enzymes from the hydrolase class that catalyze the hydrolysis of peptide bonds. EXOPEPTIDASES and ENDOPEPTIDASES make up the sub-subclasses for this group. EC 3.4. |
