Pituitary Gland

Definition: A small, unpaired gland situated in the sella turcica tissue. It is connected to the hypothalamus by a short stalk.

Pituitary Gland Categories.
Hypothalamo-Hypophyseal System - A neuroendocrine system of neurons, fiber tracts, endocrine tissue, and blood vessels which produces and releases pituitary hormones into the systemic circulation.
Pituitary Gland, Anterior - The glandular or anterior lobe of the pituitary gland.
Pituitary Gland, Posterior - The neural or post-neural lobe of the pituitary gland. The infundibulum is considered part of the posterior pituitary by most authors.
