Parasitic Diseases

Definition: Infections or infestations with parasitic organisms. They are often contracted through contact with an intermediate vector, but may occur as the result of direct exposure.

Parasitic Diseases Categories.
Central Nervous System Parasitic Infections - Infections of the brain, spinal cord, and meninges caused by parasites, primarily PROTOZOA and HELMINTHS.
Ectoparasitic Infestations - Infestations by parasites which live on the outside of the body of the host.
Eye Infections, Parasitic - Mild to severe infections of the eye and its adjacent structures (adnexa) by adult or larval protozoan or metazoan parasites.
Helminthiasis - Infestation with parasitic worms of the helminth class.
Intestinal Diseases, Parasitic - Infections of the INTESTINES with PARASITES, commonly involving PROTOZOA or PARASITIC WORMS. Infections with roundworms (NEMATODE INFECTIONS) and TAPEWORMS (CESTODE INFECTIONS) are also known as HELMINTHIASIS.
Liver Diseases, Parasitic - Infections of the liver with a parasite. They are caused most commonly by trematodes (flukes).
Lung Diseases, Parasitic - Infections of the lungs with a parasite. They are caused most commonly by nematodes (roundworms).
Parasitic Diseases, Animal - Infections or infestations with parasitic organisms. The infestation may be experimental or veterinary.
Pregnancy Complications, Parasitic - Parasitic diseases occurring during the course of pregnancy, or pregnancy during the course of a parasitic disease. Some of the more commonly co-occurring infections are amebiasis, malaria and toxoplasmosis.
Protozoan Infections - Infections with unicellular organisms of the subkingdom PROTOZOA.
Skin Diseases, Parasitic - Skin diseases caused by arthropods, helminths, or protozoa.
