Biopsy

Definition: Removal and pathologic examination of specimens in the form of small pieces of tissue from the living body.
Notes: IM GEN only; NIM with specific organ /pathol (IM) + dis /pathol (IM); coord with specific technique if appropriate

Biopsy Categories.
Biopsy, Needle - Removal and examination of tissue obtained through a transdermal needle inserted into the specific region, organ, or tissue being analyzed.
Conization - The excision of a cone of tissue, especially of the CERVIX UTERI.
Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy - A diagnostic procedure used to determine whether LYMPHATIC METASTASIS has occurred. The sentinel lymph node is the first lymph node to receive drainage from a neoplasm.
