Definition: A colorless, odorless gas that can be formed by the body and is necessary for the respiration cycle of plants and animals.
Notes: in respiration, /physiol permitted; /metab permitted for cell & tissue resp & non-lung tissue but do not use /metab for gas exchange in lung ( = PULMONARY GAS EXCHANGE) or blood CO2 transport ( = /blood but consider also HYPERCAPNIA & HYPOCAPNIA)
