Bacterial Infections Categories.
Bacteremia - The presence of viable bacteria circulating in the blood. Fever, chills, tachycardia, and tachypnea are common acute manifestations of bacteremia. The majority of cases are seen in already hospitalized patients, most of whom have underlying diseases or procedures which render their bloodstreams susceptible to invasion.
Central Nervous System Bacterial Infections - Bacterial infections of the brain, spinal cord, and meninges, including infections involving the perimeningeal spaces.
Endocarditis, Bacterial
Eye Infections, Bacterial - Infections in the inner or external eye caused by microorganisms belonging to several families of bacteria. Some of the more common genera found are Haemophilus, Neisseria, Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, and Chlamydia.
Fournier Gangrene - An acute infective gangrene involving the scrotum, penis, or perineum caused by gram-positive organisms, enteric bacilli, and anaerobes, usually resulting from local trauma, operative procedures, or urinary tract disease.
Gram-Negative Bacterial Infections - Infections caused by bacteria that show up as pink (negative) when treated by the gram-staining method.
Gram-Positive Bacterial Infections - Infections caused by bacteria that retain the crystal violet stain (positive) when treated by the gram-staining method.
Pneumonia, Bacterial - Pneumonia caused by various species of bacteria. Bacterial pneumonia commonly results from bronchogenic spread of infection following microaspiration of secretions. The largest category of this disease arises from community-acquired pneumonias.
Sexually Transmitted Diseases, Bacterial - Bacterial diseases transmitted or propagated by sexual conduct.
Skin Diseases, Bacterial - Skin diseases caused by bacteria.
Spirochaetales Infections - Infections with bacteria of the order SPIROCHAETALES.
Vaginosis, Bacterial - Polymicrobial, nonspecific vaginitis associated with positive cultures of Gardnerella vaginalis and other anaerobic organisms and a decrease in lactobacilli. It remains unclear whether the initial pathogenic event is caused by the growth of anaerobes or a primary decrease in lactobacilli.
